With the PlayStation 3 being the current cream of the crop, gamers the world over are scrambling to try and find reliable places to download PlayStation 3 games from. The good news is that there are several viable options available, though unlike older systems, there are additional considerations which must be factored into the equation.

The most popular way to download PS3 games is file sharing. Games are usually available the day they’re released, sometimes even earlier, and new games usually have plenty of activity to ensure relatively quick downloads. Then there are direct downloads, and these come in two flavours. Those which are posted to mainstream download sites, and member-only sites which must be paid for to gain access.

The risk of downloading files from sites like Rapidshare, or over P2P networks, is that they’ll contain malicious code which could make your computer security vulnerable, and the game file useless. Members-only sites have verified uploads that are free from any viruses or other harmful content.

Another important consideration with newer systems, and especially the newest systems like the PlayStation 3, is download speed. Game files are larger than ever, and this makes download speed vitally important. As an example of recent PS3 games and their growing sizes, Lair is a whopping 23 GB, while Heavenly Sword clocks in at over 19 GB. A slow download speed could mean waiting days or even longer for your download to complete. Even at 50 KB per second, which is a mid-range download speed, it would take approximately 5 days to download Lair.

This is where members-only direct download sites usually outdo other download methods as well. They have large, dedicated servers to handle fast downloads, and a limited number of members downloading at any one time. On the other hand, downloads found through sites like Rapidshare and MegaUpload feature slower downloading speeds, not to mention the aggravation of having to download multiple parts individually, as file sizes are capped.

File sharing on the other hand is a mixed bag. For popular games, download speeds may be fast, though this will still fluctuate. Less popular games though will typically have slow download speeds which could take weeks to finish, if at all. Imagine the frustration of downloading 15 GB worth of game content, only to have the sole remaining seed decide he doesn’t want to seed the file anymore when you’re finally get close to completion. You’ve now wasted 2 weeks of your time slowly trying to download a game, which ends up amounting to a complete waste of time (and bandwidth, which unless you’re lucky enough to have an ISP that gives you truly unlimited bandwidth, you’ll likely be paying for on the next bill).

The choice is yours as far as how to download PS3 games. You can go the free route and deal with some of the aggravations inherent in most anything that is free, or you can spend the money to join a direct download site and reap the benefits of faster and safer downloads. Good luck in your PS3 downloading endeavorsHealth Fitness Articles, and have fun gaming.
